Starnberger See

Starnberger See

My last post on Munich! It was my last day there and I was going to catch the plane in the evening to go back to London for another week. Lufthansa is fantastic I have to say and I love the e-ticketing service. Fast and so damn convenient, instead of waiting in a long line to reach the check in counter.

Starnberger See

Since it was our last day together, Joyce and Heiko decided to bring us to Starnberger See, this wonderful, huge lake from which you can actually see the Alps. We took a train there and many were heading to the lake as well, just like us. The weather again was gorgeous! Sun was just shining away and the air was cool. Bliss!

Starnberger See

The lake was amazing! The only lake I had seen so far in the past three years I had been in Kyoto was the Biwa Lake which is so damn huge, that it look like the sea at some parts.

Starnberger See

Yup! I saw the Alps! It was far and tiny from where I stood and I had to squint my eyes before I saw it but saw it I did! We had fun, having a nice picnic lunch on the greens and just chatting and enjoying our last moments together. Oh boy, I do miss it. But we will see each other again in December! I can't wait!!

Munich at night

Munich at dusk

Walking along the Munich streets at night was a sight. I was blessed with great weather, not too cold and there was no rain apart from the first night. Everyone was out enjoying the atmosphere, tourists and locals alike.

Munich at dusk

The shops there close quite early, so I had no hopes of shopping. Besides, I had limited euros with me, so shopping was just a dream, hehe. Looking at the window displays was enough to satisfy me and they had some pretty good ones!

Munich at dusk

Outdoor cafes were aplenty and everybody was out drinking beer, chatting with friends, eating, creating a lively atmosphere. And in some places, there was nobody around, and it felt calm and serene. Imagine you are alone walking, surrounded by silence, the lovely architecture and the soft orange glow of the street lamps and the display windows.

Street musicians

There were also a lot of street musicians displaying their talents on the streets. Some were really, really good and I just stood there listening to them. They have their own CDs for sale if you are so inclined to buy it and tokens of appreciations are always welcomed.

Munich at night

I will just post the photos here for you guys to see. Enjoy!

Frauenkirche, Michaelskirche and Ludwigskirche

Frauenkirche

Frauenkirche or Cathedral of Our Blessed Lady is one of the famous landmarks in Munich. Apparently it is the largest church in Munich, according to Wikipedia. You can't miss this church; you can see the twin towers from anywhere.

Frauenkirche

It was from one of these towers that I took the bird-eye view pictures of Munich city. Pay the price, climb up the narrow winding staircase to the lift, go all the way up and you are there!

Frauenkirche

The church is famous for its stained glass windows. It was beautiful, when the light was streaming through the coloured glass. Seems fairytale like. There were also art pieces from famous artists that adorned the interior walls.

Frauenkirche

Frauenkirche

Every window had a different story to tell. I had to come back twice because again, I happened to be at the church when the mass was about to start and they cordoned off the altar area to the tourists.

Michaelskirche

Michaelskirche was another church that I went to. Unfortunately when I arrived there, or rather more accurately, stumbled upon the church, it was late evening. The sun was already setting and the interior of the church was a little bit too dark for me to take decent photographs without the use of a tripod. But the effect of the candlelight and the soft orange glow from the lamps gave the church a kind of sacred feel that left me in awe.

 Ludwigskirche

Ludwigskirche was another gorgeous church that I had visited. The interior was just so pretty, with the rich colours of dark mossy green, dark violet blue and gold designs. It was understated in beauty, when compared to the Theatinerkirche or even Frauenkirche, but nevertheless, it was just simply beautiful.
