Deep Throat

No no, not the X-rated movie but rather the identity of the most famous journalistic source had been revealed. I had read All the President's Men by Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein (highly recommended) a couple of years ago and had always been curious about Deep Throat (who wasn't?) and now the mystery is solved. Hmmm...maybe now somebody will let us know what exactly happened to JFK? And who was Jack the Ripper.

Another gripe. When Saul Bellow died recently, the amount of news generated was just like a tiny pebble that fell into the sea but when Britney confirmed that she is pregnant, meters high waves came crashing through. And I quote from my friend,

"saul bellow died more than a week ago: nobel winner & literary legend... amounted to a passing mention in a small caption in the newspapers. most people... saul who?
britney, pregnant: talentless lip-syncher & famous raunchy slithering... even the orphans in mali know about it.
are our lives THAT vacuous?"

I read his Herzog ( Bellow won the Nobel Prize in Literature for this book ) many years ago and I liked it very much. However, as age catches up, my memory is sliding away, so I have to hunt for another copy of this book. Ah, speaking of books, I had recently found a hardcover copy of Candide by Voltaire in a second hand bookshop near my campus. I was over the moon! It was only 1000¥!

On a much lighter note, I had just seen the preview trailer for the new Pride and Prejudice movie and I have only this to say...PLEASE bring back Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle. P&P is one of my favourite novels of all time and the BBC adaptation of that novel was arguably one of the best. Kiera just does not come across as a Lizzie Bennet and the actor potraying Mr Darcy does not look constipated enough! ( for those of you who had read the Confessions of a Bookaholic site, you will understand what this means ). Ah well, knowing me and my weakness for P&P, I will most probably end up seeing this movie anyway. I will have to wait for one whole month to hear the cheesy "Hold me like you did on Naboo" line from Queen Padme (can someone confirm that she actually said this?). I will cringe but since I survived Episode 11 and Neo's line "I know kung fu" from The matrix, I trust I will come out alive!

(Please forgive the horrendous grammar and spelling mistakes....it is late, my eyes are closing and my brain is mush)
