Wat Arun

Thanks to my personal Bangkok tour guide, Mai, I got to enjoy the wonders of the Grand Palace and Wat Arun. Wat Arun has a beautiful meaning - Temple of the Dawn - and is named as such because the early morning light will reflect off the surface of the temple with a pearly iridescence (Source: Wikipedia).

The structure was decorated bits of porcelain and apparently seashells. The designs were delicate and intricate and one can only imagine how they painstakingly created them on each and every surface.

It was absolutely hot and humid when I was there. My entire back was soaking wet by sweat and aching from carrying my heavy backpack but that did not stop me from admiring this beautiful temple. It may not be as grand as the temple in the Grand Palace compound, but one only needs to look at it to appreciate the wonder of it.

The steps to the top were perilously steep, and I only climbed to the first story - was too tired to climb to the top, although the view of the river was suppose to the beautiful.

Even so, the view from the first story was good enough for me. It was cool, looking down from the steps and seeing people trying to make their way up.

Look at the view...all the way up....
